Morning Report: Cain Velasquez believes Jon Jones beats Tom Aspinall: ‘He’s a master at this’

Cain Velasquez believes Jon Jones beats Tom Aspinall.

In November, Jones efficiently defended his heavyweight title with a third-round TKO over Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. Following his win, Jones known as for a battle with mild heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, as a substitute of a unification bout with interim champion Tom Aspinall, saying he’d solely entertain the Aspinall battle for “f*ck you money.” Some followers took that as an indication that Jones is ducking Aspinall, however former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez doesn’t agree.

“No, I don’t assume he [beats Jon Jones],” Velasquez informed Ariel Helwani when speaking about Aspinall. “Me, simply watching him, I sort of see his sample slightly bit in his putting, the way in which he is available in and strikes. I believe Jon sees it too. So, I believe with that — Jon research. He does his homework. He’s a grasp at this. He analyzes issues, he research you time and again. I believe only for that motive, he’s going to know what to do. So I don’t assume [Aspinall] beats Jon.”

Velasques is aware of a factor or two about what he’s saying. The previous two-time UFC heavyweight champion was as soon as seen as top-of-the-line pound-for-pound fighters on the planet and is the longtime good friend and coaching companion of Jones’s rival Daniel Cormier. And understanding the lay of the land as he does, Velasquez believes Jones has the requisite skillset to punish Aspinall for slight errors.

“Everyone has a battle sample,” Velasquez defined. “Some folks disguise it higher than others. The easy truth is the way in which Tom, the way in which that he is available in and fights, he has a sample that’s considerably simpler to search out. When he is available in and strikes.

“A variety of issues include that. It’s disguising the sample, it’s throwing fakes earlier than. However when he is available in and assaults, he is available in and assaults. It’s one hundred pc, full go. He is available in and glides in, lunges in, and does his assault. Not that it’s not efficient, it’s! He’s performed nice issues with it. Look the place he’s at now. I’m not taking something away from him. However I believe that the kind of man that Jon Jones is, I believe he research him and he beats him due to that.”

At the moment there’s nothing official a couple of battle between Jones and Aspinall, although rumors not too long ago started to swirl when UFC commentator Joe Rogan urged he heard the UFC was keen to pay Jones’s asking value for the matchup.
